Inspired by

THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA

DAVID ESBJORNSON –  Acclaimed Broadway, Regional, and International Theatre Director
ANA MORALES – Multi-award-winning classic and flamenco Dancer and Choreographer
MIGUEL MARIN – Founder and Producer of the internationally-renowned Flamenco Festival
ANNA BECKER – Executive Director, On Stage At Kingsborough

In early 2021, On Stage At Kingsborough’s Executive Director, Anna Becker, initiated a series of creative conversations to explore a dance-theatre collaboration between esteemed American Director David Esbjornson, international Flamenco Festival Founder & Producer Miguel Marin, and Ana Morales, award-winning choreographer and dancer from Seville, Spain.

The group discussed many possible texts for exploration and ultimately decided upon Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba as the inspiration for the project.

These early creative conversations were recorded and intercut with excerpts from previous performances by Ana Morales. The recordings conclude with Morales' first improvisational steps in her dance studio, in response to these conversations.

This collaboration was funded, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and private support from The Mertz Gilmore Foundation.
